It's too easy to forget how many amazing things there are to be thankful for, especially during times when life seems to be snowballing out of control. Studies have even proven that people who consciously thought about the positive aspects of their day instead of dwelling on regrets, mistakes and negative circumstances before dosing off slept sounder and had better overall mood and less depression. It makes sense!
As a chronic worrier and dweller on past-events myself, I am trying to initiate this change into
my daytime and night-time routine. Today it was something as simple as
being so thankful that a kind man (on his way up the stairs
nonetheless) helped me bring my heavy stroller (with my son on board)
down the steep steps of the subway. I don't think he even spoke any
english but I thanked him with my biggest smile and felt my heart lift
from the kindness he had shown.
Tonight before going to bed, I will think about the amazing fresh food I was able to prepare for my family for dinner, for the wonderful day at the aquarium with my son, that my parents returned home safely from a trip, and keep in mind that I am able to wake up and start new everyday.
